The mission of the Health Sector is to promote the health status of the people of Jigawa State through improved, integrated health care services, on the basis of Primary Health Care.
To ensure good resource mobilization and practices with increased public–private partnership (PPP) and effective community participation and ownership, so as to ensure that basic health services are made available, accessible, affordable and acceptable to the people of Jigawa State.
To have a healthy and productive population in the State.
The health policy thrust in line with the National health policy focuses on Primary health care delivery system with the primary objective of improving the health status of the population in a sustainable manner. This entails continuous improvement in all key health indicators in the state through improved accessibility to affordable and qualitative healthcare services; reduction in health and disease burden among the people; and other targeted intervention programmes specifically aimed at the attainment of the health-related SDGs.

Haihuwa Lafiya (Safe Motherhood)
In 2007, Jigawa State introduced the Haihuwa Lafiya (Safe Motherhood) Programme to provide free maternal and child health services in the state. In 2013, The Jigawa State Government announced that they had set up 353 Safe Motherhood Demand Creation Committees to enhance reproductive health services in rural areas of the state under the Haihuwa Lafiya programme.
Free Medical Services to Less Privileged
Jigawa state government has provided free healthcare services to the less fortunate, including under-five children, expectant mothers, accident victims as well as the vulnerable in the society.
Fight Against Covid-19 Pandemic
The Fight Against Covid-19 Pandemic programme spent over four million naira to repair broken oxygen concentrators and install effective oxygen delivery system at Dutse general hospital.
Saving the Children Against Pneumonia
Due to the dangerous nature of pneumonia and its negative impact on children in Nigeria and Jigawa state in particular, Save the Children International embarks on the first-ever National Integrated Pneumonia Control Strategy and Implementation Plan in order to minimize its negative effects on children in the state.

The Federal Government has formally taken over the Rasheed Shekoni Specialist Hospital (R. S. S. H) Dutse from the Jigawa State Government. In addition to service delivery, R. S. S. H will be used for training the medical students of the Federal University, Dutse.
Gov. Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa has directed the immediate recruitment of 32 medical doctors to boost the state’s health sector. According to newsmen, the recruits are among the 60 students sponsored by the state government in 2016 to study medicine in China.
